Directions to the D.C. Animal Shelter

The Washington Humane Society shelter is located at 7319 Georgia Avenue, NW (Across from Walter Reed) between Fern and Geranium Streets. Parking is generally available on both Fern and Geranium streets and at the meters on Georgia Avenue.

From Downtown and NW DC
Take 16th Street north toward Maryland. Follow 16th Street passed Walter Reed Army Medical Center, right after you pass WRAMC you will come to Alaska Avenue, make a right. Follow Alaska Avenue approximately 5 blocks to Geranium Street. Make a right onto Geranium Street and follow to Georgia Avenue. Make a right on Georgia Avenue, we are located on that block on the left side of Georgia Avenue. 7319 Georgia Avenue, NW

From Capital Hill , SE, SW and NE DC
Take North Capital Street, north toward Maryland. North Capital Street will eventually turn into Blair Road. Follow Blair Road passed the Takoma Park Metro. (You will also pass a catering company on your right and an Amoco gas station on your left.) Once you have passed those landmarks you will come to a stoplight which is Piney Branch Road, go through the stoplight and make the next left, which is Fern Street. Follow Fern Street to Georgia Avenue. Make a right onto Georgia Avenue. We are located on the right side of Georgia Avenue at 7319.

From Maryland or Virginia
Take 495 (Washington Beltway) to the Georgia Avenue exit (Exit 31, Route 97 South). Follow Georgia Avenue south . We are approximately 1 mile from the Washington DC/Maryland line. We are located on the left hand side of the road. (Some landmarks to watch for are a McDonalds and an Exxon gas station on the left hand side of the road.) We are one block south of that intersection, between Fern and Geranium Streets. If you go past Walter Reed Medical Center you have gone one block too far.
