Snowball is a lovely 2 year old girl who was surrendered by her owner because she didn't want to have to deal with the fact that her cat needs to scratch and play. Snowball is a friendly, loving girl who is a little overwhelmed in her new shelter surroundings and because of that is a little shy with new folks at first. Tawny a 2-year old female tawny tabby! She is one of the sweetest felines around. Tawny has a "difficult" story to tell. She was found stray and assumed pregnant at the time she was picked up because her stomach was distended. However, after a few days and not going into labor we suspected there may be complications. The good news, Tawny was NOT pregnant, the bad news, she required an emergency spay to remove an infected uterus. Throughout all these difficulties she remained an absolute sweetheart. Tawny loves attention. She welcomes me at the door when I arrive home and snuggles and purrs when held or pet. This gal is looking for a terrific home where she can get all the love and attention she deserves!

Patches is a 3-year-old cat. A bit from her... "I can be a little shy at first with new people but I warm up once I get to know you. By day, I'm a pretty independent lady and I spend most of the day looking out the window watchin' the birdies or taking a nice nap under my favorite chair. I also enjoy playing in my cardboard box and with my foster mom and dad when they get home. Once my foster parents go to bed, I like to snuggle up next to their legs for the night. I'm also a real talker when I want to let my foster parents know something, whether its to say "hey...feed me!", "welcome home...i missed you" or just to say "hey there." I like to rub my face up against you to give you love...but also because I just really love my face rubs! I hope you'll call my foster parents really soon to come visit me so that I can show you what a good girl I am and how much I'd love to find my furever home with you!"

George and Denzel are George and Denzel, named after the two hunks, but we are even more adorable than our namesakes! Our birthday is March 9, 2009. We have been with our foster mom and foster siblings for almost a year now. The main reason is that we are not big cuddlers and tend to be sort of skiddish around new people. But . . . we are very sweet and playful and likely to warm up to a new mom and dad once given a chance. We definitely need to be adopted together as we are super bonded. Elvis (left)  and  Gregg ()(right) is a year-old champion cuddler, a happy adolescent playful boy with a laidback disposition to boot. He is absolutely awesome and his stunning orange eyes will mesmerize. (He also has cool little ocelot-like dots on his underside.) He is super sweet and loves people and other cats and would probably do well around a cat-friendly dog. He came from a multi-pet household where his owner could no longer afford to care for him. He met a new pal at the shelter, Gregg, and they became fast friends, bonding instantly. Gregg is a year-old tabby (maybe a little younger) with the softest fur ever. He is like a rag doll—so floppy and cuddly. He doesn’t ever seem to get tired of being held like a baby. He enjoys being with other cats immensely and bonded instantly with his cage-mate, Elvis, at the shelter. He is a doting licker and enjoys keeping Elvis looking sharp. He is excellent with other cats and probably cat-friendly dogs, too, as he is just a generally good-natured, happy-go-lucky little dude.

Fluff . My name is FLUFF, guess why? I have a beautiful medium to long hair coat but I take very good care of it! I am a female and will turn 1 year old in late August 2009. I spent a while in the shelter after being found stray on the streets before I went to my foster home. (In fact, Azrael, one of my foster brothers and I came “home” together although we are not related!) I am very playful and love to be pet. I like the attention of my foster mom but get along great with my foster feline siblings as well. I would love to have a home to call my own with a feline companion if possible.

Tabitha . Hi! My name is Tabitha and I am looking for my forever home. I was born in March 2008 and was a “foster” mom for 3 kittens after I was brought into the shelter without my own babies. I am not sure what happened to them but I am glad I was able to feed and care for other little ones who lost their own mom and needed me. I am a bit shy but very sweet. I like to sit a top the cat tree and look out the window at the birds and squirrels. My foster home is nice but I really want a home to call my own. Meow!!

Vega . My name is VEGA, named after the car. I am a mom and two of my kids are here with me, Yugo and Opel (more cars) looking for a great home too! I am sort of a kid myself. I was born in March 2008 and am very frisky and playful. I tend to be a bit of a loner but am quite confident and assertive around others. I would not mind a house by myself but I am ok with other cats and dogs too. Don’t let my all black coat turn you off, I am a real gem!

Tygra (left)  and  Snarf & Cheetara ()(right) is the leader of the three, she is very playful, and very very cuddly, and is a huge purr box (not pictured). The all black kitten is "Snarf" she also very cuddly, she doesn't like dogs, she loves to play with our cat, she is the biggest of the three. The tuxedo name is "Cheetara," she is the runt of the kittens. She loves loves our dog, she cuddles up with our dog while the other kittens are together. If you have any question please contact me.

Chloe and Gucci are two beauties who were returned to their foster mom after their adoptive family had to move without them. These two girls, born in August 2007, had been with their family for almost two years and now they miss a home to call their own. At least they have each other and they definitely want a new loving home together. They are super sweet and cuddly when in the mood! Chloe (the mostly white cat) is more of an explorer and Gucci (in her play house) a bit more of a recluse but they make a terrific pair!

Lenny Lenny is a very friendly boy who loves to give kisses and meows "Hello" everytime you come into his room. He wants lots of belly rubs and to chase the laser pointer and play with the peacock feather. Lenny loves everything including the adult cats!

Sweetie Sweetie - She is a loving little girl who purrs madly, is ready for any game any other cat has in mind and would be great with one of the other kittens in her foster home or with an older cat. Very pretty, her soft fluffy fur makes you want to sit and brush her while listening to her purr.

Hamburglar is very well named! Anything and everything is a potential toy to him and he's not above stealing things to play with them! Your pens, jewelry, etc. will be fair game to be kitten entertainment! Hamburglar is an absolute riot of a cat- he's playful, energetic and just all around fun!

Robbie

Robbie is a five month old cat (as of Dec. he is five months) who has tons of personality. He is very playful with people as well as just himself. He can sometime play a little rough so I am not sure if homes with babies are a great match. He does however play well with other cats, dogs and kids. He is very sweet and lovable and a great entertainment to watch.

Petunia (left)  and  Twirk ()(right) are looking for their permanent homes. Petunia is a very sleek, pretty, orange, black, and white, short to medium haired, Tortoiseshell. She's a female, around 10 months old. She was surrender to the shelter because her family was moving and couldn't take her along. She's use to living with children and has been a single cat, met a few cats in previous foster care, so she could be an addition to another cat home. Twirk is a handsome, 1+ year old, brown and black Tabby. He's very friendly, social, outgoing, and playful. Get's along with other cats (and his new housemate Petunia). Brought to the shelter as a stray and immediately identified as a great cat that would be a great addition to anyone's home.

Stiza is a very affectionate cat, looking for a permanent home. From her, "I'm just settling in to my foster home after my family gave me up because they were allergic to me. When I'm not taking a cat nap, I'm a little love bug! I love to get my head and belly rubbed (I purr a lot!) and just snuggling up with my people while they read or watch tv. I'm really sweet and pretty - my foster parents tell me this all the time! I'm excited to find my forever home and I hope it's with you!"

Kit Cat is available for adoptions. A few words from her "Hi! I am Kit Cat and am looking for a quiet, loving family to call my own. I was brought to the shelter back in the early spring with my four kittens. Unfortunately, they all died before reaching 4 weeks of age. I was very distraught and spent the next couple of months in hiding at my foster mom’s house. I even managed to get stuck behind the wall… don’t ask me how….. But…. The contractors pounded through the wall and rescued me! Things have gotten a lot better since then. I am now out and about and feeling a bit more secure. I know that with a bit more time and lots of love I should be out of my shell permanently. I hope you’ll consider meeting me!"

Stripes is an adorable boy. As you can see his tabby stripe markings are very distinct and quite handsome. He was born in December 2008 and is an absolute joy to have around. He is very playful but also likes to be pet and will cuddle on his terms. He and Explorer (another foster) love to wrestle together. Stripes, like Explorer, is looking for a forever home with a feline playmate and lots of human love and attention.

Mike is a tuxedo cat that was surrendered by his owner because her child was allergic to him. He's a mellow cat, likes jumping on your lap on his terms and coming over to be rubbed from time to time. Getting use to living with other cats, but would probably enjoy being an only cat or with another older cat like himself.

Peppercorn is in foster care. A few words from her, "Hi, my name is Peppercorn. The photos don't quite do me justice, because I am a luscious tabby with beautiful markings and wide, round eyes. Things have been a bit rough lately, since I guess you could say I was a victim of downsizing. I was originally adopted into a multi-cat family, but when it got too expensive to keep us all, I was sort of the "last hired, first fired" cat to go. But I'm hopeful I'll be adopted again. My food manners are good; I am a neat litter box user. And I love to do little hip-hops when I want you to pet me. My favorite toys are socks stuffed with crumpled paper, balls filled with bells, or anything tied to a thick piece of twine. My jumping legs are back, after being in a kennel for so long, but I am usually very careful not to knock anything over. And if you're a computer nerd like my current foster parent, I am happy to curl up and keep watch over you. If you're looking for a loyal friend for life, I'm your cat."

Indigo

Indigo is living with her foster mom. Here's some words from her, "Meow, my name is Indigo , and I’d be delighted to meet you and your family! My foster mom has been very kind to me and my kittens the past few months, but it’s time for me to find my forever home. My kittens have already found theirs, but I am hopeful I will find mine soon! At only a year and a half old, I’m a youthful, friendly feline, and I get along well with my species as well as others. While I crave attention and enjoy meowing, playing with my toys, and rolling over for belly rubs, I also like to have time to myself to daydream and of course nap. Felix (left)  and  Frosty()(right) are sweet, three-month-old brothers. They are white with hazel eyes and a tiny grey spot on the tops of their heads. Their sister Frankie is all white with gorgeous blue eyes. They all love to play and sleep together, they are super friendly and let you know how happy they are with their amazing purr motors. Frosty loves to lay in your arms while you give him belly rubs. They all give kisses and Frankie likes to crawl in bed and nibble your ear, nose or lip in the middle of the night! They currently live with a dog and two older cats. Felix likes to stretch out next to the dog as well. :)

Wisin is a one-year-old grey Tabby with beautiful white markings along his nose and neck. He is a relaxed and happy cat who loves other cats and isn’t afraid of new people. He would be fine with dogs as well. He is very active, following his person through the house everywhere to supervise household projects. He is intelligent, well mannered, and fun. Wisin likes company, so he should not be the only cat in the house. Wisin has had all his shots and is neutered.

Sweet Pea (left)  and  Stormy()(right) are living in their foster home and enjoying life! Two adorable white, orange, and black calicos. Can you tell us apart? It's hard to and they are looking for their permanent home together so that they can always stay close. They are 5 1/2 years old, both females, both very sweet, and quite a special pair.

Morrie is a 9 year old male cat who is affectionate and likes long naps. He's being fostered by the niece of his previous owner, a family that can't keep him any more. He is already neutered and in very good health. The family really loves Morrie and wanted to keep him, but their son, unfortunately recently tested positive for cat allergies, and since he also has asthma, the doctor said Morrie needs to find a new home.

Franky is a 3-year-old male cat that was brought to the shelter because he was hanging out outside of an apartment building this winter. He's all white, a handsome guy, and as you can see loves to sit 'in the middle' of your desk or whatever you happen to be working on. Now living as an office cat, looking for a permanent home. He's a special needs cat in that we believe he would do best with indoor/access outside since he was primarily an outdoor cat before or with a house with lots of room and a porch or basement access. Okay with other cats, an independent minded cat, that comes to you when he wants affections. Playful and friendly.

Pixie Bob is an adorable Manx cat looking for his forever home. He was living out doors until he was rescued by his foster mom.

Cassie is a strikingly gorgeous jet black beauty with a white belly, white paws and super long white whiskers and eyebrows. Found as a stray in Anacostia, this sweet 1-year-old is looking for her forever home. She is full gown at only 9 pounds, so she is a dainty girl. Her fur is unbelievably soft and silky and she has extraordinarily exotic golden yellow eyes. She is as gentle as can be and loves to purr when being pettted or when sitting by your side. She is mellow and extremely easygoing, but also adorably sassy. Cassie loves affection or just lounging around the house or finding ways to amuse herself. She is currently in a foster home with dogs and other cats and gets along with both, but is especially fond of her cat pals. She has tons of energy and would be happy to play with your other cats if you have them.

Jingle is a 2-year old female, gray/black stiped with white paws and bib. She loves attention, but doesn’t demand it, and is a shy and easy-going companion. Rub her chin and you’ll have an instant friend. Put her next to you on your couch or bed, and she will stay with you for hours. Jingle was first brought to the shelter with her own kittens, then she nursed kittens from 3 other litters, but she has been recently spayed and is looking for a new life in a home of her own.

Mr. Beefy is a wonderful, Tom Cat who was found in a rural area in Maryland outside of an antique store. No one knew who he belonged to and why he showed up and wanted to come inside REALLY badly. He's a very friendly cat, fine with other cats, and he'd make a great addition to your home. He is living in his foster home now and has no interest in the outside world. Can you open up your home to Mr. Beefy?

Sunshine is a sweet 13 year old girl who was having a rough time and was a bit nervous at the shelter. Wouldn't you if you were uprooted from your home and put into a strange place after all of those years? She is a beautiful, long-haired, orange and white cat with gorgeous light green eyes and soft fur. She is looking for a tranquil home to relax and enjoy some affection with her loving family. She loves to purr while being pet and will cuddle by your side or nearby once she gets to know you. She may be best as a single cat in a patient and gentle family as we believe she had been alone most of her life. Mamma Cita is my name, but I wouldn't mind if you wanted to give me another name when I come home with you. I am a year old and have nurtured my four kittens for the last five weeks. My foster family would love for me to get the loving home I deserve, and my kittens to bring joy to their new families once they are weaned and ready to go. Makai is a handsome cat with striking markings and bright green eyes. He loves attention and isn't scared to snuggle up next to you in bed for the night. A very social cat he would be good with children, dogs, and even cats. Very playful and sweet, Makai loves toys and getting his belly rubbed. He went through a rough time at the shelter and suffered from hair and weight loss but is thriving now and is in search for his permanent home.

Glenda is a very sweet, friendly young cat who was found wandering in SE DC very pregnant the day after Christmas. Sadly, her kittens did not make it, but she has made a great recovery - she was slightly shy for the first few hours in her foster home, hiding beside a chair when someone would come in the room, but as soon as she saw who it was, she would come running out to be petted and rub against us. Within a couple days, she was waiting at the door when we came in, doing little "jumps" in the air, arching her back to receive pets. She has gained weight along with confidence, eating with gusto so you can no longer feel those bones when you pet her! She is overjoyed to be inside in the warm with humans to love on - you can see it and hear her beaming whenever she lights her eyes on her people and now just wants a forever home of her own to settle into! She is good with young children.

Shella is a sweet, special girl who happens to be a little shy. She knows her name and loves to purr happily while getting back rubs. When she meets a new person she likes to skitter under the furniture. But dont let her fool you, shell eventually cuddle up. Shella needs a forever home with someone who will be patient as she adjusts. Her pretty eyes will melt your heart!

Kiki is a very special kitten. She was born with Cleft Palate. Although you can't see it on her face or mouth as you'd expect, she has a slit in the roof of her mouth. She is scheduled to get surgery soon and this will correct the problem. If you didn't see the inside of her mouth, you'd never know she was not the sweetest, most playful kitten around. She loves other cats, walking around on her foster's shoulder, and playfully bounces around her foster's house with lots of energy. She is looking for a loving home and will be a pefect cat for someone with a kind soul who will open up their home to her.

Trouble (left)  and  Sara ()(right) are mother and son, reunited at a foster home. Trouble is a sweet 6 pound short-haired domestic male, approximately 9 months old. I don't know where he got his name, as he is anything but! He is mostly white, but has a brown taiil and brown markings on his head and ears. He is currently getting over a cold, so his appetite is just beginning to pick up again, so he will probably be a little heavier than his current weight, but is still a rather small-boned guy. Sara, his mom is also a very friendly cat, self-assured, and enjoying her foster home where she and Trouble live with cats and dogs. Both seem to get along fine with all of them. Both are good natured, very affectionate, and like human companionship. Sara hangs out on the couch with her foster mom and one of the dogs.

Scout is looking for her forever home. Here are a few words from her, "Aye-Aye-Aye, man am I ready for a real home! First, I was dropped off on a farm – pregnant no less – where I then raised my four kittens. They found good homes but I stayed on at the farm. It wasn't bad, I was allowed inside whenever I wanted, but then the nice man who took care of me left, and I was banished to the outside. Outside! All the time – even in the freezing cold. Having been accustomed to living inside, it was a real shock to my system to try to make a life out in the cold. But I did it for a few years, huddling next to the house to keep warm, until someone said they would take me home and find me a nice, new, warm place to live. So now I'm ready to move forward.......”" Yes, Scout would love a new home. She is a unique cat, as her background would indicate. Having been an indoor cat for some time, she is affectionate, loves to be pet, scratched and cuddled. She also comes to sleep in our bed every night and likes being around people. Showing some of her outdoor influence, she also is very curious and clever and likes to play as if she were still a kitten. She is amazed by the laser light and climbs the walls to try to catch it. She is smart enough to know she never will, but plays anyway. The funniest thing is that she not only watches TV, but she swats at the animals on the screen. I want to keep her, but she is very uneasy around our three cats, and won't come downstairs to join in the fun. I think she became very territorial living outside all those years, and she wants her own space to relax in rather than worry about what three other cats are doing around her. She would be happiest as an only cat in a home with a porch!

Hitomi is really sweet. Once she gets attached to you she wants to be on your lap and snuggle a lot of the time. She eats anything in front of her including what's on your plate if you're not careful. She also loves to play with anything on a stick and she is very vocal, especially when you have any kind of food in your hand. She is the mom cat to a beautiful litter of kittens (Naruto, Sakura, Ino, Hinata, Gaara).

Naruto is the biggest and bravest of his litter of kittens, Naruto doesn't run away from water or the vacuum cleaner. He loves to play with anything in front of him and he usually tackles Gaara or Sakura.

Sakura is the second biggestin her litter. She likes to chase ankles and she sometimes thinks she's Spider Man 'cause she tries to climb the walls. She also chases her tale till she falls off the couch.

Ino is a tomboy kitten. The foster actually thought she was a boy before she got spayed. She was rough and tumble with Naruto and Gaara, but now unless there's a feather wand around she usually just snuggles with Hinata and Hitomi. She does run around and play but not as much as the others.

Hinata the runt of her litter, but she's really tough. She plays hard with everyone but still likes to snuggle up next to you on the couch. She's especially inquisitive and likes to climb up on to of anything high with Sakura.

Potsie is another of the 3 kittens, looking for a permanent home. Potsie says, " I'm a typical middle child. I love to play, but I'd rather be invited than start it. I am interested in things I can chase - strings especially-- and I do love to purr and cuddle with my brothers and my foster folks. I'm careful about my litter box; I have a healthy appetite; I'm social, and, if I do say so, very photogenic. I'd love to come be part of your family."

Fonzie is ready to meet you and have you take him home. Fonzie says, " Hey... aren't I just adorable? I am the smallest of my brothers. I am also the best cuddler. Who could resist the Fonz? I am playful, but I am just as happy to curl up in my foster mom or dad's lap to be petted. Being the baby of the family, I'm spoiled which is okay by me. My foster mom lets me eat Fancy Feast by myself because my brothers eat way too fast. Please take me and my 'black leather jacket' home with you. You can invite one of the other ones, too, if you want. I won't complain."

Michael is one of the nicest cats I've ever known. He is a 2 year old neutered male mackeral tabby which means his coat is has unusally beautiful markings, but the best thing about Michael is his personality. He is very adaptable, likes everyone, loves to play with kittenish energy but also enjoys a good cuddle. He comes when called! And he can do the fandango (a cat dance involving winding around your feet as you walk). He's super sweet and engaging, gets along with kids, other cats, dogs. I think he'd enjoy a home with another pet or two since he's so companionable. He is also a big talker, often roaming the house with his opinions about the state of the economy and the strange weather patterns. Get your application in fast, before I adopt him myself, seriously.

Samantha is a cute young tabbie (almost a year old) with the biggest beautiful amber eyes. Now she is ready for a home of her own. Samantha especially loves nestling in dresser drawers, playing with feathered kitty toys, and purring loudly on the bed to start the morning. Samantha is a gentle soul, somewhat on the shy side. She likes other cats, so she would be a great companion to another kitty. Come meet Samantha soon!

Woogie (left)  and  Craig()(right) are two adorable male kittens living in their foster home and enjoying everything. It's a new world out there and there is lots to get into, lots to explore, and always a fun time to have. Do you have space in your home for one or both of these kittens?!

Han Solo is an adorable boy, born in May 2009, is a PURRRRR machine! He adores people, loves to sit in your lap and cuddles in bed at might. Han Solo also enjoys scampering through the house, playing and wrestling with his foster siblings, especially Stripes. Han is one of the sweetest felines around and is looking for a home with lots of love and attention. If you like the soothing sound of purrrrr and a cuddle muffin, Han is for you!

Courtney is a lovely little girl, almost 9 months old and completely litter trained. She loves to run around the house before collapsing in kitten exhaustion. She's playful with people, but still learning about other cats. Courntey is a wonderful companion, happy to sit nearby and watch whatever may be going on. She'll even follow you around the house! She responds happily to head and back rubs, sweetly purring and nudging your hand for more! Courtney had a rough start and is still a bit afraid of real kitty toys and loud noises, but in time she's sure to adjust. This little girl will warm your heart and knock your socks off with her charming, loving personality. She'd love to meet you!

Franny is the sweetest cat you'll ever meet. Very affectionate, a real cutie, who would love to find a permanent home and is open to a house with other cats. She's a female, tabby, just a year old.

Bume is a very nice and a very tall cat. He would do best in a home as either a single cat or with a younger submissive and playful cat. He loves to play with balls and feather wands, and though it may take him a little while to get comfortable and warm up, he diffidently will. He head buts and responds to his name. Gucci is a 3 lb, barrell of energy and playfulness. Come meet Mr. Gucci!! Yes, a young, male kitten, he's 3 1/2 months old, neutered, vaccinated, and ready for his permanent home.
