Adopt An Animal
Here are just a few of the amazing companions waiting to meet you at the Washington Humane Society Shelter on 7319 Georgia Avenue, and more animals come in each day. Come by the shelter to meet your new best friend today.

Meet Your MatchMany of the cats in the care of WHS are a part of the ASPCA’s Meet Your Match™ (MYM)program. MYM is the only method in existence today that evaluates an animal’s behavior and interests and matches them to an adopter’s preferences so that you take home a pet you can really click with. If you see "Feline-alityTM" below a cat's description, click on the title of the personality for a better description.

Call Jessica Townsend, WHS Georgia Ave. Adoptions Manager, at 202-723-5730 (ext. 136) or email jtownsend@washhumane.org if you are interested in any of the dogs available on this page.

Bam Bam.jpg

Bam Bam A09435533

Adorable and sweet, Bam Bam has a pretty rough run of it so far in his short life. He was found as a stray and is working hard to gain the weight that he lost foraging for his own food. Bam Bam also has the added challenge of being deaf. It doesn't faze him any, but it does mean that his owners are going to have to be extra vigilant with him when he's out and about. Training with a deaf dog can be a lot of fun for an owner! Bam Bam will need to be trained with hand signals instead of words and our training department can give an adopter tips on how to get started.

Bam Bam doesn't let his disability hold him back - he's already learned some obedience basics in the Dog Tags program and leads the PACK on jogs and hikes! Click the icons below for more information on the programs Bam Bam participates in.

Max A09434773

Max is what we affectionately call a "Heinz 57" dog. We aren't sure what breeds are in there, but they combine into a gorgeous dog! At 4 years old, Max takes to new people quickly and is loving getting attention from the shelter staff and really enjoys going for walks.

Lizzi

A petite, 4 year old, Lizzi is sweet, but shy. She is initially nervous with new people and we are looking for a home for her without children under 12. Good with other dogs and likely good with cats, Lizzi would be a good addition to a home that already has pets.

Summer A09424781

Really, how can you resist ears like these??

Besides being as cute as a dog possibly can be, Summer is also an extraordinarily nice dog. She loves to get attention and is eager to please. Her owners are going to be pleased with how smart she is and how easily she picks up new things with positive reinforcement based training. She can be a little bit shy, so she would benefit from confidence building in new situations.

Gracie

Gracie is a little shy, but very people oriented. She had a hard start in life, but is bouncing right back and is ready to make friends! With some training to help her feel more confident and bond to her owner combined with a loving home, Gracie will be a wonderfully loving addition to a new family!

Gracie is a star on the canine agility course in our Dog Tags program and a top runner in the PACK! Click the icons below for more information on the programs this athletic pup participates in!

Fendi

What a great puppy! Fendi is 8 months old and in her short life has overcome a lot. She had an accident in her first home where her shoulder was broken and her owners couldn't afford to care for her. She has healed well and is up and running around like apuppy should! She is great with people, very friendly and outgoing and she likes other dogs and we think she might even be able to live with cats, too! She does need to learn basic puppy manners and a group training class would be fun for her as well as for a new owner! Adopters get a discount on WHS training classes at our Behavior and Learning Center and they already know and love Fendi and would be happy to continue to work with her!

Because Fendi's so smart and loves to learn, she's enrolled in our SIT program! Click the icon below for more information.
