Adopt An Animal
Here are just a few of the amazing companions waiting to meet you at the Washington Humane Society Shelter on 7319 Georgia Avenue, and more animals come in each day. Come by the shelter to meet your new best friend today.

Meet Your MatchMany of the cats in the care of WHS are a part of the ASPCA’s Meet Your Match™ (MYM)program. MYM is the only method in existence today that evaluates an animal’s behavior and interests and matches them to an adopter’s preferences so that you take home a pet you can really click with. If you see "Feline-alityTM" below a cat's description, click on the title of the personality for a better description.

Summer A09424781

Really, how can you resist ears like these?? Besides being as cute as a dog possibly can be, Summer is also an extraordinarily nice dog. She loves to get attention and is eager to please. Her owners are going to be pleased with how smart she is and how easily she picks up new things with positive reinforcement based training. She can be a little bit shy, so she would benefit from confidence building in new situations.

Fendi

What a great puppy! Fendi is 8 months old and in her short life has overcome a lot. She had an accident in her first home where her shoulder was broken and her owners couldn't afford to care for her. She has healed well and is up and running around like apuppy should! She is great with people, very friendly and outgoing and she likes other dogs and we think she might even be able to live with cats, too! She does need to learn basic puppy manners and a group training class would be fun for her as well as for a new owner! Adopters get a discount on WHS training classes at our Behavior and Learning Center and they already know and love Fendi and would be happy to continue to work with her!

Because Fendi's so smart and loves to learn, she's enrolled in our SIT program! Click the icon below for more information.

Jackie O

Like her namesake, Jackie O is a real lady. A little reserved at first, she had nice manners. She isn't pushy for attention and doesn't jump on people. She likes to go for walks and is a wonderful, quiet companion.

John John

Jackie O's son, John John is a 5 month old puppy with all the great traits of puppyhood- he's energetic, enthusiastic, and full of fun! As with all puppies and young dogs, a new owner should expect to do basic obedience training, housebreaking and to give him lots of regular exercise to burn off his exuberence. (Adoption Pending)

Daffodil1.jpg

Daffodil

Daffodil is a gorgeous, Fila Brasileiro. A young dog, only 1 year old, Daffodil is full grown, but will still fill out some. Very gentle with people, Daffodil can be a bit timid with new people and new situations, so a home willing to socialize her gently would be ideal. She has lived with another dog and we even think she might be ok with cats! We recommend breed research.

sapphire.jpg

Sapphire A09536581

At 9 months old, Sapphire is out of puppyhood, but isn't a full grown adult yet. She has all the energy and playfulness of a puppy but is old enough to really pay attention and learn some new things. She is a bit shy and is still learning about the great wide world, so we are looking for a home that up for being patient while she learns and does not have small children.

Hamilton

Hamilton is such a happy dog! Nothing makes him happier than when someone comes to see him- he always picks up a toy to try and give you! Hamilton is very energetic and would make an excellent jogging companion. He's going to need that sort of exercise to burn off his energy. At just under a year old, Hamilton still has a lot of puppy in him!

Noel A09307845

A darling 6 month old Chesapeake Bay Retriever mix, Noel is a lovely puppy. Good natured and fun, Noel loves to play and is good with other dog and we think she could learn to live with cats, as well. She would benefit from taking a class to learn basic obedience and manners.
