Adopt An Animal
Here are just a few of the amazing companions waiting to meet you at the Washington Humane Society Shelter on 7319 Georgia Avenue, and more animals come in each day. Come by the shelter to meet your new best friend today.

Want to see more pictures of dogs and cats available for adoption? Check out the dogs and cats on our Foster page. These animals are currently living at the home of the volunteer foster parent!

Meet Your MatchMany of the cats in the care of WHS are a part of the ASPCA’s Meet Your Match™ (MYM)program. MYM is the only method in existence today that evaluates an animal’s behavior and interests and matches them to an adopter’s preferences so that you take home a pet you can really click with. If you see "Feline-alityTM" below a cat's description, click on the title of the personality for a better description.

Call Jessica Townsend, WHS Georgia Ave. Adoptions Manager, at 202-723-5730 (ext. 136) or email jtownsend@washhumane.org if you are interested in any of the cats available on this page.

Paris and Dorado2.JPG

Paris and Dorado

Gentle, sweet, and totally gorgeous, Paris and Dorado are best friends who have been together their whole lives. They are the perfect, pre-made cat family; they groom each other, sleep together and play together. Best of all? They love people!

Because we are requiring that Paris and Dorado find a home with each other, they can be adopted for one fee.

Mason A09213718

A laid-back, go with the flow kind of cat, Mason would fit in just about any home. He's affectionate and enjoys people, but he is also content to do his own thing. Calm and tolerant enough for cat savvy children, Mason also may do well in a home with existing pets.

Mocha and Java A09068303, A09068220

Handsome brothers who have been together since they were born, Mocha and Java are great cats! They love to play, but mostly like to get attention from people. They do like each other, but like human siblings, they do prefer to have time away from each other, as well and would love a new family to bond with!

Because we are requiring that Mocha and Java find a home with each other, they can be adopted for one fee.

Piglet.jpg

Piglet A09255450

Sure, Piglet may have eaten a little bit much, but that's no reason to call him a piglet is it?

A loving armful of cuddly cat, Piglet is a sweetheart. At 5 years old, he's past the kitten phase and is much more interested in cuddling than racing around the house. He's great with female cats, but would prefer not to live with males. He doesn’t want to compete with any other boys for your attention!

Bonita09373926.JPG

Bonita A09373926

A gentle, older lady, Bonita has lived with other cats before and would be fine to do so again, but she would also be happy being your only pet and getting all of your attention. She loves to be petted and adored and just needs a quiet home to spend her golden years in. Do you have space in your heart and home for a homeless, older cat?

Quincy A09406770

Look into those eyes...how can you resist her?

A petite, 1 year old, Quincy is just barely out of kittenhood and has all the fun of a kitten tempered by the calmness of a grown cat.

Bella and Bernie

Bella and Bernie are 12 year old friends that have been together their whole lives and are devoted to each other. Tragedy struck their owner and they came to the shelter. Bella is a chirpy, talkative, outgoing cat who is always up for getting love and attention and isn't shy about asking for it! Bernie is a wonderfully large boy, a truly gentle giant. When he gets excited about being petted, he will lick your fingers!

Both Bella and Bernie were clearly cherished in their past home and it shows in their calm, loving natures. They are in great shape for their ages; if we didn't know that they were 12 we would never have guessed it. They are looking for a home that appreciates the merits of an older cat. Bella and Bernie just need a soft place to sleep and a person to love them!
